Fort Calgary

Project

The Fort Calgary site has deep significance to the founding of Calgary and continues to dramatically impact the lives of Indigenous people of the area. With a new focus on “the land” as well as confluence and change–the story stretches back millennia to include communities that existed long before the 1875 march west by the North West Mounted Police. Like the rivers that border Fort Calgary and ultimately converge, the interpretive centre will become a showcase for the confluence of diverse ideas and opinions.

With a permanent museum in the works, an exhibit was designed to showcase recent curatorial developments. Taking cues from the future construction site of the museum, the exhibit uses simple materials like plywood and high contrast yellow and black to express that big changes are underway.
